That's it. I want a farm.

What will happen to the small local farms that can't afford the cost of this?

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

Well, you know, urban "homesteading" is all the rage these days. We haven't visited with each other in a while, and you might be surprised to note that we have three "pet" chickens now.

We've also started supporting our local farms by buying only local milk, butter, cheese, and meat (Smiling Hill Farm), as much local produce as we can find (the farm stand in OOB and Flaherty's farm on Payne Road in Scarborough), and local PYO apples and strawberries.

It was quite a challenge at first to find local stuff, but the more I looked, the more I found - "local" flour (from Vermont), local maple sugar, local spinach dip (Seabrook,1 NH), and now it's so much easier, and it's fun, and I feel like I'm making a positive difference for my family, for my community, and for the environment ;).
