Down the road there is a big, lovely house sitting way back off the road. It is next to the river and has lovely dormers, huge garage and a rolling manicured lawn. It has a long tarred driveway with different types of trees placed stategically all over the landscape. It's a house and lawn I would love to have. However....
Nobody ever goes in......and nobody ever comes out.
We drive by this house at least a dozen times a week. Probably more like 2 dozen. We have never seen a car pull into the driveway. We have never seen a car parked in the driveway. We have never seen the lawn being mowed. There are wreaths hanging from various places on the house and garage, yet we saw no one hang them. We rarely see any lights on in this house, yet when everyone else has lost power, the lights in the house mysteriously come on.
On Christmas day we took a walk down our road. It was a quiet and peaceful day. As we approached the house, the air around us seemed to thicken. The quiet stillness seemed to grow quieter still. We stood at the end of the driveway. Bare, sleeping trees eerily framed the house as my husband quietly said, "Nobody ever goes in......and nobody ever comes out." And we continued our walk past the mysterious Wonka house, watching it as we strolled by.
And until I actually see a human being walking outside this place, I will continue to wonder as I drive by, "Do you think it's creaming and sugaring time? Is the river behind the house chocolate only in that one area? Can Oompa Loompas drive lawn mowers?"
I'll let you know if I find out.
