Clever Miners, Forty Niners

I really am sorry about the terrible picture quality I have. I want a digital Camera --- one as wonderful as Ree's, but I'll have to wait.

In hopes of teaching something wonderful to the children, we decided to act out our Story of the World chapter about the gold rush.

We pitched a tent in the living room, "cooked" beans over a "fire", and ate bread and dried meat. We read wonderful things about Virginia City and looked at old mining maps. We played a triangle and sang mining songs. We used flashlights and talked about our family we had left back home that we missed dearly and how we hoped to make our fortune in order to give them a better life.

History at it's finest.

A tent making tip: use zip ties to secure the end of blanket to things. Hopefully our tent will last longer because of this.
